Announcements for this week

The Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost

If you are a newcomer or a visitor—welcome!  Please fill out a contact card found in your pew.  Let’s get to know one another!  St. Joseph’s is a place of worship, prayer, fellowship and study.  Normally we pray Morning Prayer at 7:30 a.m.and Evening Prayer at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Please join us for prayer and fellowship whenever you can.  The “poor plate” located by the baptismal font funds our fellowship and outreach ministries.  Thank you for your gifts!

Clergy schedule: Karen’s normal Sabbath is Monday.  In the event of a pastoral emergency, she is available on her cell phone (919-951-8739).  If you need pastoral assistance on Mondays, please contact Deacon Louane at 919-651-0339 (LFrey716@aol.com). Deacon James can be reached at 919-593-3227 (jamestoddemail@gmail.com).

Friendship Dinners:  As in the spring, we will be scheduling friendship dinners for the first weeks of November.  This is an opportunity to get to know fellow church members better and share potluck meals in one another’s homes.  If you are interested in hosting a meal for 6-8 people, please let Emily know (emilyzdubie@gmail.com).  A sign-up sheet for joining a meal is in the parish hall.

Please join us for a cookout on the front lawn following a couple of hours of clean-up on Saturday, Oct 28th.  We will blow/rake some leaves and hopefully spread some mulch beginning at 2:30 Saturdayafternoon and gather for a cookout at 5:00.  We will provide burgers and dogs (or chili if it is raining).  Please bring a side, dessert or drinks to share.  There is a sign-up sheet in the parish hall.  Feel free to bring a neighbor or friend.

We will pray night prayer in the style of the Taizé community upstairs in the parish hall on Wednesday, October 25th following the Holy Eucharist with prayers for healing and a potluck supper. Please join us for any or all of the evening.

Dear friends, we are in need of your financial help! Our worship building is 109 years old, and we are needing to make some necessary repairs and would also like to make the building more accessible with a wheelchair ramp out front.  We have a “capital donations” line item for such items.  Here is an estimated breakdown of expenses.

  • Foundation repairs (new piers under two corners of nave): cost unknown at this time
  • Installation of wheelchair ramp and grading of land away from building: $6,000+

Any contribution is helpful, and given the age of the buildings, this is likely to be an ongoing budget item.  Many thanks for all your support of St. Joseph’s!

Collection for St. Joseph’s community in need:   We invite you to bring any of the following items and place them in the basket at the back of the church for our breakfast and outreach needs; these items are part of the offerings of our life and labor.

  • ground coffee
  • toilet paper/paper towels
  • tee shirts
  • grits
  • men’s underwear (32, 34, 36)
  • socks

Are you interested in being Confirmed or Received into The Episcopal Church?  Bishop Sam, our new diocesan bishop, will be with us on Sunday, November 5th, for All Saints Sunday.  Karen will set up a class for those interested in possible confirmation.  Just let her know.
